We take our social and environmental responsibility
All the roses of our brand Rosa Plaza are being grown at our farm AQ Roses in Ethopia. Doing business in a country like Ethiopia also brings certain responsabilities. We are convinced that good quality can only be achieved by good working conditions. For us, a sustainable and socially responsible production is very important.
That we have obtained several certifications that recognize this point of view, makes us proud.
Rosa Plaza | AQ Roses holds the following certifications:
- EHPEA Code of Practice Silver
- EHPEA Code of Practice Gold
- Global GAP + GRASP
- Global GAP Chain of Custody
The Fairtrade certificate has been obtained in 2014. This means that the nursery meets various criteria in the area of environmentally friendly production and good living and working conditions for employees. Fairtrade differentiates from the other certifications that the consumer will pay a premium for every flower sold under the Fairtrade label. This premium will be available for our employees to support all kind of social projects. An independent committee of workers of AQ Roses will manage those projects. A good opportunity to improve the living conditions of our workers even more.
Every bunch has a label with the Fairtrade mark and our FLO-ID. By which our flowers are traceable.
A part of our roses will be sold as Fairtrade. When our roses are sold as Fairtrade in the store the consumer contributes to better living conditions for our workers.
EHPEA Code of Practice Silver
AQ Roses was in 2015 fhe first farm in Ethiopia to have obtained the EHPEA Code of Practice Silver certificate. We are very proud of this achievement. Recently EHPEA Code of Practice Silver has been benchmarked with Global GAP, an important certification that emphasizes the high demands on the working conditions at the nursery. A certificate that is also regularly required by supermarkets for their products.
EHPEA Code of Practice Gold
Since 2016 our farm in Ethiopia has also the EHPEA Code of Practice Gold certificate. Compared to the Code of Practice Silver level, the highest level distinguishes itself from a number of far-reaching activities in the way of cooperation with the local community and the horticultural sector.
MPS Socially Qualified shows that we produce our roses under good working conditions. MPS-SQ is based on universal human rights (Codes of Conduct) of local organizations represented and agreements of ILO (International Labour Organization).
The MPS-A certificate shows performance in the field of environment. As MPS-A grower we register the use of crop protection products, fertilizers, energy and waste, every four weeks. Based on the usage of these products, the grower receives a qualification. The qualification MPS-A stands for the most environmental friendly cultivation.
The MPS-GAP certificate is specifically for companies that supply retailers. Requirements have been formulated for MPS-GAP for production in the field of traceability, environment, safety and hygiene. MPS-GAP is the next step (after MPS-A) on the way to sustainability.
Global GAP + GRASP
By achieving the EHPEA Code of Practice Silver level, we also immediately achieved the Global GAP certificate. In addition, we are also certified with the GRASP module. This stands for GLOBAL GAP Risk Assessment on Social Practice and was developed to assess the social aspects at the nursery.
Global GAP Chain of Custody
This label guarantees that all flowers that we sell as Global GAP also come from Global GAP growers. This Chain of Custody is necessary in our chain because our Dutch company trades our flowers produced in Ehtiopia.
The MPS-A certificate shows our performance in the field of environment. As MPS-A grower we register the use of crop protection products, fertilizers, energy and waste, every four weeks. Based on the use, the grower receives a qualification. The qualification MPS-A stands for the most environmental friendly cultivation.
